Lets talk about Art Styles

Lets talk about art styles..
In school we were encouraged with every lesson to try out new art mediums and styles. From acrylic , watercolours , pastels , clay , collage , Lino printing … You've probably had a go at it in school as some stage.
Somewhere along the line you may have fell into a trap. Maybe you found an art medium you were best at , maybe you just started to feel safe with it or maybe you just forgot about all the mediums we used to use and love.
I am victim to this trap too. It's very easy when creating content and selling Art to feel like you have to stick to one process and style. Maybe you started out painting landscapes , or flowers , or food.. people start to compliment your work. It makes you feel great and inspired! So you dive further into this , creating different landscapes or flower paintings , creating your own gallery and style!
This is where it can feel difficult to move on from this , to try something new and different. People get stuck in an art style for years , some people get bored and stop creating altogether , forgetting there is a whole genre of different art styles to experiment with. It's very easy to stick to what you know in life. Especially within social media , you may feel like a certain style belongs to a specific creator , but it doesn't. Everyone gets inspired and it okay to feel inspired by other peoples work!
I have decided that I don't want to feel trapped , or feel like I have to stick to one style. At the end of the day art is about creative freedom , the freedom to create anything you want!
So.. over on my socials I have decided to start a new series where I try out different art styles. Im picking a reference image and then creating art using the reference image in different mediums and styles.
My first reference image I started with is an image I took of a vase in my kitchen full of tulips! With the first art style being Oil Patels! A medium I haven't used in years! and I LOVED IT! There is something so freeing about using oil pastels. It felt so quick to block colour and draw using the pastels!
I then took my hand to Lino printing. Again , something I haven't tried since I was in High School! It felt like a craft , carving each layer , mixing my on colours using only the primary colour inks. And to be completely honest there is still some parts of my Lino print that hasn't dried.. is this because of the ink , is it because of the many layers I used , maybe I should have let it dry between layers. Ahwell , I shall just do my research before trying again! The outcome wasn't perfect … but that's not what this process is about. Its about feeling freedom again within creating!
So , this is my Challenge to you … Allow yourself to feel challenged with Art and CREATE WHAT YOU WANT TO CREATE!
You can check out my series so far on my socials and follow along to see me try more art styles!
Thank you of reading , I will check in again when I have attempted my hand at more art :)
